Biography
Demir Durukan was born in Istanbul. He began his music lessons at Marmara University and at Kadikoy Conservatory in 1993.
1998, he studied piano and jazz theory at Bilgi University of Music with Aydin Esen. After that, in 2003, fine piano studies began in Austria. Durukan studied music theory at the university of Music in Graz with Clemens Gadenstätter, Georg Friedrich Haas and Beat Furrer, Following this between, 2005-07, he studied ensemble conducting with Prof. Johnnes Prince. In 2007, he studied composition at the University of Music and theaters Rostock. Here, Durukan was also an active member of the Bridge Festival of Contemporary Music which he attended seminars with Helmut Lachenmann in 2007 and in 2008 he attended seminars by Martin Smolka.
In 2009-10 Durukan studied composition at the University of Music in Stuttgart with Marco Stroppa.
2011 studied postgraduate Composition at the University of Music in Karlsruhe with Wolfgang Rihm.
2011 Master Classes with Michael Jarrell.
From his musical development based on tension proportional of jazz armonic and free atonality unfolds Durukan’s music, his specific expression on an unusual combination of quasi improvisation spontaneity and carefully controlled melodic and harmonic construction. (Oliver Schneller)
